Sign in to your DualShockers account Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced recently announced it has surpassed 3 million copies sold worldwide, and that's understandable; the game is a faithful remake that adds new content while keeping the existing content just as fulfilling to explore and complete. And Edward is just as memorable a protagonist as he was in the original, with Matt Ryan's flawless performance. For someone like me who's played the OG installment a dozen times on and off with his Xbox 360, it can be easy to get lost in this game whether you're a returning player or someone new checking out the remake. So for this list, I aim to showcase the best tips and tricks for Black Flag Resynced that I wish I had known earlier. A couple that you might already know, but trust me, the rest are worth checking out because they even surprised me. 10 Useful Gameplay Settings and Options For Heightened Immersion and Flexibility Thought we'd start off with something that could be a worthwhile Quality-of-Life improvement, and that's found in the gameplay settings of Black Flag Resynced. In the Gameplay Settings tab, you can find three notable options to toggle on/off: Area Loot HUD Toggle Unlimited Oxygen Area Loot allows you to instantly collect all nearby loot from corpses in a given proximity. Meanwhile, HUD Toggle is mainly just there for immersion, which I found some of my friends using as well during the game's downtime moments or when exploring the islands. Lastly, Unlimited Oxygen is pretty self-explanatory, as it allows you to stay underwater indefinitely without the risk of dying—this one is probably the most accessible setting, which is great for someone who struggles with the game's Diving Bell activity or just the underwater controls. 9 Use Observe to Find Hidden Chests & Collectibles Like a Light in the Dark Alright, this one may sound like an obvious one for people who've actually played the recent Assassin's Creed titles as well, but the Observe feature returns here, allowing you to directly pinpoint and highlight Treasure Chests (yellow orbs), important progression markers (green orb), or any collectible in the wild (white orb). Even though activating a Synchronization Viewpoint marks everything in the vicinity, this can make scavenging new locations or fully completing existing ones a breeze, since these Observed markings will remain highlighted until you nab them. 8 Hunt Every Animal in Sight Even if you Don't Need the Pelt/Hide The reasoning for this is actually in the subtitle itself, because although you may not need that Capuchin Monkey pelt or the Hutia that you've countlessly slain on that one island in-game, there's something more valuable to gain here from hunting every animal in sight. And that's the bones that you can sometimes get when skinning animals or the harpooned aquatic life. The most important incentive here is the fact that you need 206 of these bones to purchase the Skeleton Crew cosmetic, which can be an absolute grind when you find this out later on in the game. Moreover, should you be looking for an animal pelt or skin that you still want, you can also trade these bones at the General Store in Great Inagua to get the pelt/skin of your liking. Just remember to upgrade the building so you can access almost every animal skin/pelt. 7 Shoot the Smoke Massive AOE Blasts This is something that I completely forgot, but it has helped me so much in contested situations where there's a ton of enemies grouped together; you can basically throw out a Smoke Bomb and then shoot inside the smoke with your pistol to trigger an explosive blast. This can be immensely helpful when you're boarding ships, as you can pretty much just chuck a Smoke Bomb on a group of enemies fighting your crew and then proceed to one-shot KO them with a pistol shot inside it. However, just so we're clear here, make sure you're outside the smoke radius itself because, much like the enemies, you can also leave Edward hanging by a smidge of his HP if you're caught within the blast yourself, so don't make that stupid mistake, okay? You don't want to lose all that legendary Pirate aura farming. 6 Don't Sell Trade Goods You're Losing Precious Resources I can't stress it enough—please, for the love of all there is, do not use the "Sell Trade Goods" option to earn money in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. If you're aiming for the doable Platinum Trophy/100% completion, then these are the most vital resources in this game. Oh, and there are literally better ways to steadily earn thousands of Reales. A lot of people online are making the mistake of selling these at General Stores, so if you're not a completionist, by all means sell them for a quick chunk of change. But for the other minority who do care, you can plunder these resources from enemy ships as well as from Storage Warehouses. And if you're wondering where these exactly come into play with such importance, stay tuned because the next tip is correlated to this one. 5 Optimizing Kenway's Fleet Make Sure to Always Have it Running One of the most important side activities in this remake is the inclusion of Kenway's Fleet, now a fully-fledged side hustle rather than something being relegated to a smartphone companion app. And while the game does a great job of explaining things to you, here are key factors to note: Firstly, I strongly recommend unlocking all the Berth slots so that you can have as many ships to choose from as possible. You'll start with three slots but can increase it gradually via Hideout Upgrades and buying slots outright with Reales. Schooners are the most important ship to have, as you need to launch them on regular missions to earn Reales in exchange for some of your Trade Goods. Try to get 2- or 3-star-rated Schooners from the Hard-difficulty regions of the map. Freighter Ships and Man-O-Wars are the second- and third-most important, with the latter required to decrease risk levels in regions so that your ships take less damage while on missions. Obviously, make sure to tackle and complete every Fort on the map to gain access to more regions for missions. It's better to start grinding Kenway's Fleet as soon as you unlock it. Even if you don't have any Man O Wars or Freighters. That's because some missions will often reward you with art sculptures or pieces that are required to 100% the game. And finally, you can easily earn thousands of Reales from Kenway's Fleet with the proper missions for the Schooners, making it one of the best ways to quickly earn money. 4 Focus on Upgrading The Manor First Get That Protection Box Income Rolling Speaking of the best methods to earn money, besides Kneway's Fleet, I strongly encourage you to unlock and upgrade the Manor immediately, even ignoring the Great Inagua buildings themselves. The Manor has three total upgrades: Facade, Tower and Garden, along with the Guesthouse. The reason why I say this is that upgrading the Manor will unlock and upgrade the Protection Box in the main room. This box will steadily generate a set amount of Reales over real-time that you can come back and collect. And the more the Manor is upgraded, the higher the limit of the passive income that you can earn here. I also recommend building the Fisherman's Wharf and the Treasure Dealer at the docks because they also boost the Protection Box's money accumulation. 3 Craft The Pistol Holster Upgrade Four Shots In the Chamber Edward's pistols are one of the most important weapons in his arsenal, despite players preferring to cut down foes with his swords, and that's mainly due to the fact that you can craft upgrades to extend his pistols all the way to four in total. And don't sleep on them; the more shots you have, the more targets you can pick off in a row. There's even a trophy/achievement for successively killing four enemies in a row with the pistols within five seconds. And while you're at it, the Dark Animus Corsair Flintlocks from the online pass are easily one of the best and free pistols you can get for Edward. And you can steadily earn them just by completing the Anomaly activities in Black Flag Resynced to generate enough experience. 2 The Rope Dart Excels Beyond Hanging Kills The Best Tool in Edward's Bag of Assassin Tricks Another thing I often forgot to use, just because I was so accustomed to the original, is the Rope Dart in Black Flag Resynced. It is one of the best stealth tools in Edward's bag of trickery, just as long as you optimally take advantage of it. And by that, I mean how you can extend its use beyond just using it for the Hanging Assassinations. But there's also a trick for maximizing them, too. In combat, a fun combo I like to do is to pull an enemy to me, perform a quick leg sweep, and then take them down for the kill. Firstly, be sure to always use the Rope Dart to close in the gaps on an enemy so you can pull him into your stalking zone for an assassination. This may alert a nearby guard or two, but if there's only one, you can quickly stay hidden and nab him for an extra kill; the AI's dumb enough that you won't get caught that easily. And finally, for the Rope Dart Hanging Assassinations, I strongly recommend throwing down a Smoke Bomb before performing the action, as when timed correctly, this will allow you to remain undetected from enemies for another kill or just to get out of sight. 1 Upgrade The Mortar The MVP of the Jackdaw Finally, one of the most important tips in the game is probably well-known to most Black Flag veterans like myself, but to anyone that's a stranger to it: get the Mortar upgrade for the Jackdaw as soon as possible. And once you do get it, make sure to prioritize upgrading it alongside your important ones like the Armor Hull and Broadside Canons. The Mortar is easily the most powerful weapon of your ship since, if you properly time the release of it on a ship, you can deal some devastating damage to it. And in the harder territories of the Caribbean Seas, just watch the HP of the Man O Wars and Freighters go down.
