The Truth and Reconciliation mission in Halo Campaign Evolved hides three skulls and one terminal across its Covenant ship interior, and finding them all requires knowing exactly where to look — and in one case, pulling off a precision platforming sequence that will test your patience.
Halo Campaign Evolved launched July 28, 2026, bringing the classic campaign to modern platforms with cross-play support and local co-op. The Truth and Reconciliation level, originally the fourth mission in Combat Evolved, tasks you with boarding a Covenant cruiser to rescue Captain Keyes. Along the way, the developers tucked away the Iron, Endurance Spec, and Foreign skulls, plus the Inquisitor terminal — each with distinct gameplay modifiers that change how you approach subsequent runs.
The Iron Skull: Behind the Grav Lift
After the sniper section where you cover Marines from a ridge, you'll reach a gravity lift leading into the ship. Don't take it. Clear the enemy waves that spawn — including a pair of Hunters — then look behind the grav lift structure. A cactus marks the spot; just left of it, the cliff edge drops down to a narrow ledge where the Iron skull sits. Drop carefully, grab it, and climb back up via the tree branches on the left. Iron resets co-op players to the last checkpoint on death, but solo players restart the entire mission — a brutal modifier for Legendary runs.
Endurance Spec: The Platforming Gauntlet
This is the one that'll have you cursing. Once inside the ship with the "locate the ship's brig" objective, fight through to the large multi-level room packed with Covenant. Clear it, then return to the top floor and follow the platform toward the left side. A barrel sits near a purple pillar — jump on the barrel, then onto the pillar. You can't hesitate; the pillar's sloped surface will slide you off. Sprint and jump across three pillars in sequence, holding interact on the final one to snag the skull. Endurance Spec makes UNSC vehicles invincible, turning Warthogs into unkillable battering rams — a fun reward for the frustration.
Foreign Skull: The Locked Door Timing
Later in the mission, you'll enter a massive hangar bay with Covenant reinforcements pouring in. Watch the locked door on your right. Kill enemies in the main room to trigger spawns behind that door — when they appear, sprint for it before it seals shut. Inside the corridor beyond, the Foreign skull sits on the floor, easy to miss if you're not scanning the ground. Its effect: you can only use weapons from your own faction, locking you to Marine-scavenged gear. That means no plasma pistols for shield stripping, no needlers for boss melting — a genuine constraint that forces creative loadout management.
Inquisitor Terminal: The Brig's Hidden Cell
The terminal appears during or after the Captain Keyes rescue sequence. In the central room with four prison cell doors, hug the purple railing on your left and enter the cell block directly ahead. Interact with the device inside to drop the shields, then access the terminal in the center cell. Terminals in Campaign Evolved expand the lore around the Forerunner AI known as the Inquisitor, adding context to the ring's purpose that the original game only hinted at through environmental storytelling.
Why These Modifiers Matter
Skulls have been Halo's difficulty modifier system since Halo 2, but Campaign Evolved integrates them directly into the mission select menu rather than hiding them as off-the-beaten-path collectibles you must re-find every playthrough. Once collected, they're toggles. Iron and Foreign fundamentally alter resource management — Iron raises the stakes of every engagement, while Foreign strips away the Covenant sandbox that defines Halo's combat rhythm. Endurance Spec, conversely, is a power fantasy enabler. The variety suggests Halo Studios wants players experimenting with challenge runs from day one, not just after completing the campaign on Legendary.
The Skepticism: Endurance Spec's Design
There's a legitimate question about whether the Endurance Spec platforming sequence belongs in a first-person shooter. Halo has always had light platforming — the library jumps in Combat Evolved, the gondola sequence in Halo 2 — but this is precision movement on sloped geometry with no checkpoint between pillars. Miss the third jump and you're climbing back up from the floor. For players with motor impairments or simply less patience for FPS platforming, it's a difficulty spike of the wrong kind. An accessibility toggle or alternate path would've been welcome.
What's Next for Collectible Hunters
Truth and Reconciliation is just the fourth mission. Campaign Evolved's ten missions each hide their own skull and terminal combinations, and the meta-game of stacking modifiers for score attack runs — a Halo tradition since Halo 3's scoring system — is already shaping up in the community. If you're planning a Legendary Iron/Foreign co-op run, maybe practice the pillar jumps first. Your Warthog will thank you.
