If you've ever caught a Jetragon with lackluster passives and watched a friend's version tear through bosses, you already know the pain. Passive skills are the hidden multiplier that separates a functional Pal from a powerhouse. Each Pal can hold up to four passives, and the right combination can boost attack by 20%, double work speed, or grant near-immortality. The catch? They're random on capture. Since the latest update, you don't have to live with bad rolls — you can overwrite them.
Building the Pal Surgery Table
Everything starts at level 38 when the Pal Surgery Table unlocks. You'll need 30 Refined Ingots, 20 High Quality Cloth, and 10 Corrosive Solvent to craft it. The table serves two purposes: swap a Pal's gender with a Pal Reverser (handy for breeding), and — more importantly — forcibly replace passive skills. Even a Pal that already has four passives can have one selected and overwritten.
How Passive Replacement Works
Open the Surgery Table, select your Pal, and choose the passive you want to remove. The slot opens up for a new one, but you can't just pick anything — you need an Implant. These come in two flavors, and understanding the difference saves you a lot of grinding.
Key Item Implants are reusable. Once acquired, you can apply them as many times as you want across any number of Pals. Each use costs gold, but the implant stays in your inventory. Disposable Implants are single-use and vanish after application, but they unlock the highest-tier passives in the game — the ones that make Hard Mode Towers and Arena runs significantly easier.
Key Item Implants from the Arena
The Arena is your first stop for reusable implants. Spend Arena Tickets at the vendor to unlock these passives permanently:
- Serenity — Reduces incoming damage
- Infinite Stamina — Removes stamina drain
- Runner — Increases movement speed
- Ace Swimmer — Boosts swim speed significantly
- Noble — Increases all stats slightly
- Healing Coach — Improves healing received
- Reload Master — Faster reload on ranged attacks
These are solid generalist passives. Infinite Stamina and Runner alone transform traversal and combat uptime for any Pal you ride regularly.
Key Item Implants from Bounty Officers
Bounty Tokens earned from hunting wanted criminals unlock a second tier of reusable implants at Bounty Officers. This batch leans harder into base operations and tankiness:
- Musclehead — Increases attack
- Burly Body — Increases defense
- Artisan — +50% Work Speed (essential for base Pals)
- Vanguard — Boosts HP
- Stronghold Strategist — Improves base defense stats
- Motivational Leader — Buffs nearby ally Pals
- Wellness Watcher — Increases HP regeneration
If you're optimizing a base workforce, Artisan is the standout here. Pair it with Motivational Leader on a management Pal and your whole production line speeds up.
Disposable Implants: The Relic Recycler and World Tree
This is where the chase begins. Disposable Implants drop from the Relic Recycler, which processes relics obtained by defeating or catching Pals inside the World Tree. The drop rate is low, and the implant vanishes on use, but the payoff is passives that simply don't exist elsewhere:
- Demon God — Massive attack increase
- Diamond Body — Extreme damage reduction
- Immortality — Prevents death once per battle
These are the passives you slot into your main combat team when pushing Hard Mode Towers or climbing the Arena ladder. A Jetragon with Demon God and Immortality plays like a different species.
Planning Your Implant Strategy
Don't burn Disposable Implants on Pals you'll replace next week. Reserve them for your core team — the Pals you take into endgame content. Use Key Item Implants freely on base workers, mounts, and breeding parents. Since Key Items cost gold per use, keep a reserve; the fee adds up when you're rerolling four slots across six Pals.
Gender swapping via Pal Reverser is worth mentioning for breeders. If you've caught a perfect-stat male but need a female for a specific pairing, the Surgery Table solves it in one click. No more catching dozens hoping for the right sex.
Why This Changes the Endgame
Before this system, "perfect" Pals meant hundreds of hours breeding and catching. Now the ceiling is reachable through targeted grinding. Arena Tickets and Bounty Tokens are farmable currencies. World Tree runs double as relic hunts and XP. The randomness is still there — you're rolling for Disposable Implants — but the floor is higher, and the path is clearer.
For anyone who bounced off Palworld's grind last year, this is the update that respects your time. You build the table, you pick the passive, you apply the implant. The only RNG left is the one that matters: chasing the blue-quality passives that actually define a build.
