Sony is advertising to those who love physical media… Well, at least in the music space, they are. Recently, Sony shared a promotional post on social media for their LX3 Turntable, a vinyl player. The tweet, which was shared on July 25, encourages potential customers to “drop the needle, press play, and enjoy music the way it was meant to be heard.” The LX3 Turntable was first announced back in January and officially released in April of this year. Somebody tell the guys at @PlayStation. Apparently, physical media is worth supporting even if it is a small niche. PS games are much bigger than vinyl. Yet for some reason, they feel the need to kill gaming culture for profit. Shame! — Does it play? (@DoesItPlay1) July 26, 2026 You see how vinyl has made a comeback and is selling like hotcakes, and you go and wipe out the physical format of video games. ¡Hypocrites! 🔥🖕🔥 #NoDiscNoBuy #BoycottPlaystation #BoycottSony pic.twitter.com/75UnjenuU3 — MiX Mistery ✨️💿✨️ (@MiXMistery) July 26, 2026 Celebrate vinyl, and comics but get rid of gaming discs? It's like some kind of sick joke. You do know that gamers that buy physical discs much like vinyl enthusiasts buy lots of them? According to a report from the Recording Industry Association of America, vinyl purchases in 2025 generated 1.04 billion. This was the first time vinyl music sales reached the $1 billion mark in a calendar year this century. In the 2025 fiscal year, about 70 million PlayStation game discs were shipped. This accounts for 22% of total sales for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. Still, this was about a 4% decline year-on-year and about an 87% decline from the peak of physical game sales from 2008-2009, per VGChartz. Still, despite the obvious shift towards digital purchases, many believe that the option for physical game mediums should always be there. One of the latest names to share that perspective is Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser. How do you feel about physical media in music versus video games?
