The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past expansion to be revealed at Gamescom

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, the surprise expansion announced earlier this year, will finally be shown at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25th. The reveal will include a trailer, with guided demos available later in the week for press and fans.

If you were hoping Geralt’s story was truly over after Blood and Wine, well—CD Projekt Red had other plans. This expansion is a big deal because it’s the first new content for a game that’s been out for over a decade, and it’s only coming to current-gen consoles and PC.

Why This Matters

The Witcher 3 has sold over 65 million copies since its 2015 launch. A new expansion means CD Projekt Red is betting that players still want more of Geralt’s world, even as the studio juggles multiple Witcher projects and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

This also marks the first collaboration with Fool’s Theory, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red developers. They’re handling development while CD Projekt Red oversees the project.
