35 Best Anime With OP MC (Ranked) Now that Summer 2026 is nearly a month into its run, I can go through a few new shows or sequels that are worth watching if you want to see an OP MC do their thing. Overpowered anime characters are so common that each season features at least 10 protagonists who qualify. We aren't talking about Goku or Naruto, either; no, these OP MCs are so much stronger than every other character that no fight presents a challenge. Overexposure has caused a backlash to form against this archetype, but I cannot lie – I love a good OP MC anime! Due to the absurd number of isekai and shonen shows that qualify, you need to sift through a lot of mediocrity to find those diamonds in the rough. My goal is to make that process as simple as possible by removing the fluff and highlighting the very best anime with the strongest protagonists. Let's get to it. Best Summer 2026 Anime With OP MCs skeleton knight in another world season 2-arc with ponta, I can now recommend a couple of new Summer 2026 anime that feature protagonists who are walking deities. So far, the lineup has been pretty decent so far, with a few headline shows and a couple of solid mid-tier series. Not everything has hit the ground running, but there are more positives than negatives. In terms of OP MCs, Summer 2026 has its fair share, along with typical battle shonen protagonists like Black Torch's Jirou. I'm not going to cover sequels to anime that are featured in the official rankings (Saga of Tanya the Evil, From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman, and Clevatess); however, everything else qualifies. I Became a Legend After My 10 Year-Long Last Stand – To be honest, Summer 2026's OP MC shows mostly fall within the 6/10 range; watchable but not amazing. I Became a Legend After My 10 Year-Long Last Stand exemplifies that perfectly by doing nothing particularly right or wrong. Luck spent a decade trapped in a cave and fighting the Demon Lord's minions, only to somehow survive and, also, revert to his teenage self (because of course he did). Wanting to keep a low profile, he starts fresh as an F-Rank adventurer. Luck is a fine enough protagonist, and he did at least earn his power. The story is low-stakes, slow-life fluff. Heroine? Saint? No, I'm an All-Works Maid (And Proud of It)! – Not counting the good sequels, Heroine? Saint? has so far been Summer 2026's best OP MC anime, as long as you prefer humor above action. Melody reincarnates in an otome game as its saint, but she doesn't know that or recognize the world. Therefore, she decides to become a maid instead, completely ignoring her calling (unknowingly). This anime is just cute and silly, nothing more. Skeleton Knight in Another World II – Arc and Ariane are back, and they aren't quite the same. A change in studio tends to come with a change in quality, and season 2 hasn't come out of the switch completely unscathed. More so than the worst animation, the main issue is the reduction in gore and violent acts against the villains, resulting in a sequel that feels a bit toothless. That said, Arc is still enjoyable as a goofy skeleton who is brokenly strong. Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs 2 – Another sequel that has been somewhat disappointing, Trapped in a Dating Sim has had a slow return, although things will hopefully improve as the season goes on. Leon is mostly still the same character, and he is hilarious. The Villager of Level 999 – Look, there is nothing wrong with indulging in a bit of trash every once in a while. The Villager of Level 999 is not a good show, but it can be a fun distraction as a power fantasy about a superpowered civilian who puts to shame the arrogant hero. Best OP MC Anime Rankings Anime with powerful protagonists who have clear weaknesses or equals will not be included, and the same applies to shows that do not emphasize their leads' overpowered nature. Shows like Dragon Ball, Naruto, and Rurouni Kenshin will not be included, nor will isekai anime like Saga of Tanya the Evil, Mushoku Tensei, and Skeleton Knight in Another World. Their MCs are strong but not absurdly OP. Also, Chinese Donghua shows have been omitted; that said, The Daily Life of the Immortal King is well worth a watch for anybody craving an OP MC animated series. A powerful demon feared by humanity, Cleveatess wipes out a batch of heroes who were set to kill him, and he responds by laying siege to their castle and destroying everything. However, the long story short is that he becomes the parent of a young child of royal blood. Alongside a zombie hero and a milkmaid, Cleveatess travels through the land, trying to determine whether humanity is worth saving. Clevatess very much falls in the dark fantasy side of things, bringing to life a world that is unwelcoming to pretty much anybody. Cleveatess is not exactly a force for good either, as he is primarily driven by a desire to preserve his own monster kind. He can be cruel, vicious, ugly, and vile; however, he is also fair, in a twisted way. Clevatess is a great show and an easy recommendation for anyone craving a dark fantasy. A fantasy story that isn't isekai and doesn't star a teenager, the anime goes against tradition by featuring an OP MC who relies entirely on decades of experience. Rather than simply being gifted absurd powers, Beryl worked relentlessly to master the blade, eventually leading him to take on a role teaching the knights (which consist primarily of his former female students). Honestly, I cannot 100% recommend the anime, as it cuts quite a lot of chapters from the manga that really were needed to expand the characters. However, the production value cannot really be faulted, with the fight choreography being particularly great. The anime is set in a world where massive and strong monsters regularly terrorize cities, so it would not make sense for the titular kaiju to be beyond unstoppable. That said, Kafka can feel unbeatable at times, and he is only really matched by the absolute most powerful monsters, only one of which presented any sort of challenge during season 1. The protagonist is also constantly growing stronger as he gains more control over his transformation, so he has not reached his ceiling yet (in the anime). Finally, Kaiju No. 8 is just an entertaining action shonen anime. Who doesn't like watching kaiju smash things and, then, be smashed themselves? More importantly, the show has the budget and direction to craft set pieces that enable Lloyd, the MC, to go for broke and outshine most of his reincarnated contemporaries. For the most part, these stories feature competent protagonists, but they usually fall just short of being overpowered. Villainess Level 99 is a pretty notable exception, with Yumiella being an absolute powerhouse who basically breaks the otome game she finds herself in. Finding herself living as a game's hidden boss, Yumiella wants to just keep her head down to avoid a negative conclusion; however, she also decides to train very hard to ensure she can protect herself and the world if necessary. While not amazing, season 2 was an improvement, and that upward momentum was maintained by Fall 2024's third cour. On paper and in execution, Arifureta is the quintessential weak-to-strong isekai. The story even begins with a protagonist who is left to die by his classmates, only to quickly show them and become one of the most powerful people in their new world (and it happens pretty quickly, too). Flawed as the show can be at times, Hajime is a pretty entertaining protagonist. He is charismatic enough to justify his ever-growing harem, all the while demonstrating constant cunning and maturity regarding political situations. A young animator who experienced early success but is struggling with her follow-up effort, Natsuko chokes on a piece of food and, somehow, winds up in the world of an anime movie she watched as a kid. As this story is known for ending on a dark note, Natsuko wants to help out the heroes and, hopefully, pave the way to a nicer conclusion; fortunately, she has a special pen that turns her into a borderline god. Zenshu deserves credit for balancing an excessively powerful ability, introducing restrictions that ensure Natsuko cannot just draw away any threat without breaking a sweat. The pen decides when it can be used, and Natsuko has to constantly come up with new drawings.
