It has been a year since that movie, but we have yet to receive an official update concerning the release date of the next movie. Nevertheless, we’re still extremely excited for these new movies, and for those of us who have read the manga, we can’t wait to see the ultimate transformation of the series, that is, Tanjiro’s Demon King form. At the end of Demon Slayer, Tanjiro is turned into the Demon King by Muzan, and he becomes the strongest character in the whole world. This transformation is eventually reversed, but for a brief moment, it led to the birth of a character far stronger than the likes of Muzan or Yoriichi. Demon Slayer’s anime by Ufotable is lining this form up for a 2029 release, when Infinity Castle Part 3 is released in theaters. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 3 Is Set To Unveil Tanjiro’s Demon King Transformation, Making Him The Strongest Demon Slayer has been going strong since 2019, when the series received its first TV anime via Ufotable Studio. Since then, we have received a second, third, and fourth season, as well as three movies. The latest movie was Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1, which was released officially on July 18, 2025, and after it, we are getting two more movies to complete the trilogy of Demon Slayer to mark its end. There are two more movies planned, right now known as Infinity Castle Part 2 and Infinity Castle Part 3, and undoubtedly, Part 3 will be the one feature the highest stakes, and for big reasons. Infinity Castle Part 3 will mark the beginning of the final battle against Muzan. Of course, as with any Shonen story, at the end of the fight, the Demon Slayers will find a way to subdue the villain, even if it comes with great sacrifice. When looking at the manga, we saw Muzan’s fall in Demon Slayer chapter 200, which was released in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #18 on March 30, 2020. But to the shock of everyone, that wasn’t exactly his end. Before Muzan’s body fully disintegrates, he decides to transfer his blood and living cells to Tanjiro, the hero of the story. This development transpires in Demon Slayer Chapter 201 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #19 on April 6, 2020. Muzan’s blood transfer causes a demonic transformation to begin inside of Tanjiro, which came to officially be known as Demon King Tanjiro. In this form, Tanjiro is basically transforming to become the new Muzan. This form of Tanjiro would prove to be a bigger danger to the world than even Muzan, also making him the strongest character of all time. This form is, undoubtedly, Tanjiro’s strongest, as well as the strongest transformation in the whole story as well. In this form, Tanjiro develops demon-like traits, like the slanted eyes and the serrated teeth. He is also marked with flame-shaped marks all over his body, just like we see with Muzan’s final form, or Kokushibo. “My body will soon succumb to the sunlight… however, my memories are also eternal and indestructible. I will also pass on my memories to this boy. My breathing and heart are giving up, but not all my cells have been destroyed. There’s still time. I’ll pour all my blood and strength onto him. That way, I won’t lose against death. With you, Kamado Tanjiro, I will conquer the Sun, and I will be the strongest Demon King. Because of your blood, you’re the same as Kamado Nezuko. You can use monstrous breathing techniques; you’re unique. Don’t die. I believe that with you I’ll accomplish all my dreams. Destroy the Demon Slayers for me.” — Muzan to Tanjiro in Demon Slayer chapter 201 As far as the manga is concerned, Demon Slayer Chapter 203, released on April 27, 2020, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Double Issue #21-22, saw this transformation reversed through the cumulative efforts of Nezuko, Kanao, and Shinobu. Using the Final Form of Flower Breathing: Vermilion Eye, Kanao is able to inject Tanjiro with an anti-Demon Antidote that was given to her by Shinobu, while Nezuko holds him down and tries to speak to the remaining humanity he has left in him before he fully transforms. Tanjiro also rejects Muzan and regains his mind, and he wakes up as human once more. Of course, while Tanjiro’s form was insanely overpowered, he was left with great debuffs after resisting it. Tanjiro is permanently blind in one eye, and the arm he regenerated is akin to that of an elder, with him being unable to move it properly. All Powers And Abilities Of Demon King Tanjiro Because of how fast Tanjiro transformed into Demon King Tanjiro and was saved, we don’t have the full scope of his powers, as he has never gone all out. What we saw wasn’t even the full transformation either. However, through Muzan’s own performance, we know what kind of a beast Tanjiro would have been even in his base form. In The Sunrise arc, the Demon Slayers fought Muzan, and it was clear that he is unkillable to them with their sword slashes. This is down to his regeneration, stated to be the best among all Demons. What’s even more impressive is that Muzan’s regeneration itself was nerfed at the moment. Muzan was also able to sprout tentacle-like organs from his body and use them in combat. Tanjiro seems to sprout the same tentacles while transforming. Through Muzan’s own comments, we know that Tanjiro would have been far stronger than him, and in big parts, it comes to two abilities that Muzan never had. For one, Tanjiro, just like Nezuko, would be a Demon immune to the sun. The sun is a Demon’s main weakness, and these two defeated it. Muzan’s end goal was always to acquire sun resistance, but he failed where Tanjiro succeeded. A Demon King with sun resistance is simply unbeatable, as the only way Muzan fell was through stalling him until sunrise. Another powerful ability Tanjiro has that Muzan doesn’t is Sun Breathing. Sun Breathing is the only other weakness a Demon King could have, and that is how Yoriichi defeated Muzan. But with Tanjiro’s sun resistance and his own mastery over the swordsmanship style meant that even it would've been useless against him. Test your knowledge. Demon King Tanjiro Is The Strongest Transformation in the Series, Eclipsing Muzan and Yoriichi Demon King Tanjiro is definitely the strongest character around in the story of Demon Slayer. Muzan himself stated he would make Tanjiro the strongest Demon King ever, and this is more than reflected in his powers and abilities that defy typical Demon powers. What’s more, in this form, Tanjiro undoubtedly surpasses Yoriichi as well, the progenitor of Sun Breathing and all Breathing Styles. Yoriichi was a talented swordsman like no other, and he was swiftly able to defeat and almost kill Muzan at full power. If Yoriichi and Demon King Tanjiro would face off, however, that kind of victory wouldn’t be possible. While Yoriichi could stand up to Demon King Tanjiro, he has no way of inflicting a deadly blow on him. Sun Breathing wouldn’t be as effective on Tanjiro due to his sun resistance, and being stalled until sunrise wouldn’t work either. Eventually, Tanjiro would come out on top and defeat Yoriichi.
