Community Events Industry MMORPG News Opinion Hello, this is MOP’s Carlo reporting to you live from Black Desert Online’s Heidel Ball! What is the Heidel ball? Well, it’s the game’s one of two major roadmap announcements. Pearl Abyss was kind enough to fly press out to the event in order to cover it in person and interview the devs live, so I’ll be posting some live reactions from the floor along with plenty of pictures and footage! Check in throughout the day as I update! The night before I arrived at my hotel room a little after 1 p.m. out here on the west coast, and by that time, the hotel was starting to get quite a bit of traction. It turns out Pearl Abyss reserved the entire hotel for all the attendees of the Heidel Ball! It caught me off guard, walking in and seeing people with magic cards, D&D shirts, and most relevant to this event, BDO chatter. I didn’t really chat too much with the folks when I first arrived; I was just getting mainly a vibe check for the event. The vibe check The hotel is only about a mile away from the venue itself, and since it’s a relatively small event compared to other gaming events, there was a complimentary shuttle to ferry players over to the festivities. I rode with one group that seem to be friends meeting from the game, and they were fun and friendly with occasional roasts on our favorite characters. It’s friendly and relaxed. They were primarily PvP players, which isn’t my wheelhouse, but the ride to the venue had players talking about how sage could be nerfed more, and I was explicitly asked about my opinion on Wukong’s grab. I didn’t really have much to say outside of I like it when I’m doing the grab, but not the other way around. Upon arriving at the venue itself, I can only describe it as hot . The doors didn’t open until 11:30 local time, and I had a chance to walk around and talk to some of the players. Many are just meeting their guildies in person for the first time. For others, this is the only time of the year they get to see each other in meatspace. It’s fun to see the friendship and camaraderie amongst them, and it’s cool to be able to chat with folks that know BDO even better than I do. I chatted with members of a PvE guild that just play to get rich. They’re all long-time players that just play for the fun of it, not really trying hard, but getting rich in the process. Hey man, I get it. That’s where I’m at too! I even got an invite from their guild leader if I ever need a new one! The venue This year, Heidel Ball takes place in AV Irvine. If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s because it’s really just a building in a technological business park in Irvine. Its not some fancy historic venue or anything, but it’s perfect for what it is. It’s literally 95 degrees outside, and they’re keeping the venue at a nice 68 degrees. I like it better to be honest, it fits the right amount of people, the building features all the needs for a gaming event, and most of all it gets the vibe they’re going for! Stay tuned for more, I’m taking pictures as I go and post them as I update. MOP’s Carlo Lacsina is on the ground at Heidel Ball 2026 , bringing back all the big news on Black Desert’s multiple games and the broader community. Pearl Abyss covered the press’ travel and lodging for the event, including our writer’s, but of course the studio neither obligates nor influences our coverage. The Great Valencian Black Desert is a dangerous place, but thankfully there’s always a chance for respite.
