While a script for it exists, Goldstein seems unsure whether a follow-up will ever be made. Goldstein, who co-wrote and directed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves with John Francis Daley, was asked about the sequel by Screen Rant while promoting the Apple TV movie Mayday at San Diego Comic-Con. While he seemed eager to make it, Goldstein is not sure if a studio like Paramount Pictures (who produced Honor Among Thieves ) would be willing to spend the money to do so. "We actually wrote a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons. We were hired to write it," he told Screen Rant. "I don't know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons. They're expensive movies to make, but it'd be great fun to do it. We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like." Image: Aidan Monaghan/Paramount Pictures It's equally exciting to learn that ideas for a sequel to Honor Among Thieves exist and a bummer to hear that its potential writer and director doubts it will be made. In a decade where comedic blockbusters have lost a lot of their luster , this Dungeons & Dragons movie was actually entertaining, felt fresh, and had a lot of franchise potential. Unfortunately, Honor Among Thieves didn't do great at the box office, grossing $208.2 million on a reported $150 million budget . That's likely what makes studios hesitant to fund a sequel, even though it was more a victim of timing than of quality. It came out right before The Super Mario Bros. Movie , which was a massive family-friendly success. Honor Among Thieves also arrived several months before Baldur's Gate 3 , which catapulted Dungeons & Dragons into the mainstream and likely could've boosted interest in a movie. I think if Honor Among Thieves , or a sequel to it, came out today, it'd do much better. Hopefully, Paramount or another studio can get past those financial concerns and make a follow-up, but I'd love to know what ideas and concepts Goldstein and Daley put into that script. Close
