MMORPG News Updates Is it deep dedication or deep into the sunk cost fallacy? We’re pretty confident that it’s the former, but either way, developer Little Orbit has had no shortage of trouble with trying to get the classic MMORPG Fallen Earth back online and staying online. Readers might recall that the post-apoc game was knocked out of service early last year , then came back online for a moment before being knocked out again this past April; since then, the studio had been pretty silent. Well, that silence has broken significantly, as Little Orbit CEO Matt Scott posted a pair of dev blogs that provide some long-awaited information on where the revival project stands, and in short, it looks like things are functioning, at least on the internal servers. Efforts on the Unity version are also moving forward, with basic login flow complete, character appearance data reconstructed, and basic gameplay elements like targeting and movement working. “The rebuilt backend can now start the full server cluster and bring the world online. Zones load. Thousands of NPCs spawn and begin running their AI. A player can log in, choose a character, and enter the wasteland on the rebuilt servers,” Scott writes. “What I can tell you is that this is no longer a research project. It’s a running server cluster that starts the world, loads its zones and NPCs, and lets players enter the wasteland.” As far as what’s next, that will include some additional collision and line-of-sight checks, followed by some more significant stress tests, while the Unity edition looks to expand its playable slice by connecting more gameplay systems, completing additional interface screens, and continuing to improve the imported content. It’s a whole lot of work, but remarks from former devs on Facebook show that Little Orbit has a whole lot of support. sources: official site ( 1 , 2 ), Facebook . Cheers, Wayne and Fisty!
