DCKO, a new free-to-play 2v2 mobile fighting game from indie developer Dropfake, has been announced. It’s an officially licensed DC game, launching next year with pre-registration available now. But within hours of its reveal, the internet did what it does best: it renamed it “Dicko.”

And the official DCKO account rolled with it. “And we own that BIG DCKO ENERGY!” the team replied to influencer Coney’s joke. That’s the kind of self-awareness that makes a bad name into a meme worth embracing.

Why This Matters

This isn’t just a silly name game. It highlights a growing tension in the fighting game community: players want a new console DC fighter, preferably Injustice 3 from NetherRealm. Instead, they’re getting a mobile brawler that borrows its naming convention from Riot’s 2XKO.

DCKO’s existence is a reminder that the mobile gaming sector is booming. According to Sensor Tower’s 2025 mobile industry report, revenue is up 4%, time spent up 7.9%, and sessions up 12% compared to 2024. That’s a lot of potential players who might never buy a PS5.

How We Got Here

Dropfake is an indie studio, and the trailer shows DC characters hitting each other with comic-book flair. Actual gameplay footage hasn’t been shown, so the game is largely a mystery beyond its roster and style. The name “DCKO” is clearly a nod to 2XKO, but it’s also hilariously easy to misread.

That’s where the fanbase stepped in. “They called it DICKO,” wrote content creator Coney on X. The devs’ response was immediate and playful.

Even 2XKO’s editor in chief, Ben Forbes, joined in: “Im about to go DCKO mode.”

What the Pros Think

Reaction has been mixed. Some fighting game fans are disappointed that the next DC fighter isn’t coming to console. But multiple-time champion Sonicfox called it “lowkey so fire,” and legacy player Justin Wong said he’d “definitely be playing this.”
