Path of Exile 1’s Curse of the Allflame update goes live today, bringing a new challenge league, a new Scion Ascendancy, revamped Abyss and Legion systems, the return of the Mercenaries of Trarthus, and a new endgame system.
The PC and console servers are offline for maintenance, with the update expected to return at the standard 4 p.m. EDT time. The download is listed at 13 GB, so the actual launch window may feel a little longer on slower connections.
That matters because this is not just a patch for Path of Exile. It is a seasonal reset in the familiar Grinding Gear Games sense: a new hook, a fresh economy, and a reason for both active and lapsed players to come back to the same deep, punishing endgame.
What is Curse of the Allflame?
Curse of the Allflame is the new challenge league for Path of Exile 1. In Path of Exile terms, a challenge league is the seasonal mode with its own mechanics, leaderboards, and rewards, while normal characters remain separate.
The league theme is clear from the name and the marketing language: players are being pushed toward the “horrors of the deep.” The exact details are spread across the new Scion Ascendancy, the revamped Abyss and Legion content, and the new endgame system, but the big promise is a different way to farm.
- New Scion Ascendancy: This is a specialization path for the Scion, not a new base class. The Scion is the hybrid character option that starts with both Warrior and Sorceress passives.
- Improved Abyss and Legion: Abyss and Legion are two of Path of Exile’s harder endgame l
- Return of the Mercenaries of Trarthus: The event system is coming back, giving players another reason to group up and clear special objectives.
- New endgame system: This is the feature most likely to reshape daily play after the initial league launch.
