Halo: Campaign Evolved Pillar of Autumn Skull & Terminal Locations – Clean Sweep Guide

Every Halo veteran knows the Pillar of Autumn like the back of their hand, but finding all four collectibles in one run is tougher than you remember.

The "Pillar of Autumn" Clean Sweep Challenge

Every Halo veteran knows the Pillar of Autumn like the back of their hand. It's the mission where it all begins — Master Chief waking from cryo, the Covenant boarding, and the desperate escape that sets the entire trilogy in motion. But Halo: Campaign Evolved has a way of making even the most familiar levels feel fresh, and part of that freshness comes from hiding collectibles in spots you'd never think to check.

There are four items to find on this mission: three skulls and one terminal. Grab them all in a single playthrough and you'll unlock the "Clean Sweep" achievement. The frustrating part? Despite the level being painfully linear, these collectibles are tucked away in corners that are easy to breeze past. On my first run, I missed every single one. Here's where to find them, listed in the order you'll encounter them.

Skull 1: Speed Limit

Objective: Meet Captain Keyes on the Bridge.

That long opening cutscene finally ends and you're back in control of Master Chief. Before you take a single step toward the objective, look to your right. You'll see a ledge with yellow warning tape along its edge. That's where the Speed Limit skull is waiting.

There are two ways to reach it. You can try jumping onto the two cylindrical containers next to the UNSC sign, but I'll warn you now — that jump is finicky and will probably send you sliding back down. The better method is to hop onto the sealed cryo chamber units that Master Chief just emerged from, then jump across the gap to the ledge. Once you're up there, walk to the far end and you'll automatically pick up the skull.

Speed Limit does exactly what it sounds like: it disables sprint. That makes the rest of the mission slower, but if you're going for the achievement, you'll want to grab it early and just deal with the pace.

Skull 2: Magnified

Objective: Meet Captain Keyes on the Bridge.

After leaving the cryo room, follow the objective marker until you encounter a group of marines. One of them will tell you to follow him, leading you into an armory marked B02. Inside, you'll find empty weapon racks arranged in clusters. The Magnified skull is sitting on top of the third cluster of three racks.

You can easily jump onto the racks to grab it. Magnified gives the assault rifle a 60-round magazine as standard, which sounds great until you remember that AI enemies in Campaign Evolved hit harder and smarter than in the original. More bullets means more opportunities to spray and pray, but it also means you'll chew through ammo faster if you're not careful.

Skull 3: Perspective

Objective: Evacuate the Pillar of Autumn.

The third skull comes right after you meet Captain Keyes. When you regain control of Master Chief after that conversation, turn around and head back onto the bridge. Look behind Keyes — you'll see two marines at the helm of the ship. Drop down beneath them and you'll find the Perspective skull at the foot of the ladder.

This is the flashy one. Perspective switches the camera to third-person, which completely changes how the rest of the mission feels. If you've ever wanted to see Master Chief's armor in action rather than just the back of his helmet, this skull is for you. Just be warned that third-person in a game designed for first-person can make aiming feel slightly off.

Terminal: Approach

Objective: Evacuate the Pillar of Autumn.

The terminal is the trickiest collectible to find because it's in a room that feels completely optional. Keep playing through the mission until you reach the room above where Master Chief was awoken. This comes shortly after you navigate a ventilation system. As you leave this room on the other side, take an immediate left and enter the room marked B04.

The terminal is at the far end of this room. Interacting with it will give you a chunk of lore that expands the Halo universe in subtle ways. If you're a lore nerd — and let's be honest, most Halo players are — these terminals are worth hunting down across every mission in A Song of Ice and Fire style worldbuilding fashion.

Why These Collectibles Matter

You might be wondering why Halo: Campaign Evolved bothers hiding skulls and terminals in a mission this short. The answer is replayability. The original Halo had skulls, but they were mostly afterthoughts added in later re-releases. Campaign Evolved treats them as core content, rewarding players who explore every corner of these iconic levels.

Skulls fundamentally change how you play. Speed Limit forces you to move deliberately. Magnified encourages aggressive assault rifle usage. Perspective turns the entire game into a different experience. And the terminals? They're for the players who want to understand the deeper AI arms race and political machinations happening behind the Covenant war.

The "Clean Sweep" achievement is a nice bonus, but the real reward is seeing these familiar environments through fresh eyes. After two decades of running through the Pillar of Autumn on autopilot, Campaign Evolved finally gives you a reason to slow down and look around.

Grab all four in one run, and you'll have the achievement plus a new appreciation for how much Activision's approach to remasters has influenced the industry. Campaign Evolved isn't just a graphical upgrade — it's a thoughtful reimagining that respects the original while adding meaningful reasons to revisit it.
