The world's top-ranked team according to the global VRS survived a 19-16 thriller on Ancient after OG’s Adam "adamb" Ångström caught fire in the second half of the decider.
The series began predictably enough. Spirit demolished OG 13-4 on Cache, an entirely one-sided affair that suggested business as usual. But OG flipped the script on Dust2, taking a 7-5 halftime lead by punishing Spirit’s sluggish offense. Danil "donk" Kryshkovets started to find his footing on the defensive side, but sloppy retakes and smart calls from OG kept the map close. OG took the second map 13-11, forcing a decider.
Ancient looked like a return to form for Spirit, who sprinted to a 9-3 lead on their CT side. Then adamb went berserk.
The young Swede produced an audacious push out of A site that became the highlight of a stellar individual performance, dragging OG back into the game with well-coordinated mid-rounds and vital multi-frags alongside Casper "cadiaN" Møller. OG kept the game alive into overtime, but Andrey "tN1R" Tatarinovich woke up in the extra frames, and Spirit’s improved offensive execution was just enough to close it out 19-16.
For OG, this is a tough loss that will sting — but it also signals real promise for a roster that has struggled to find consistency. Taking the world No. 1 to double OT on their home stage is no small feat.
The upset of the day belonged to FOKUS
While Spirit survived, Aurora did not. FOKUS eliminated the new-look international roster in the first match of the day, taking a 2-1 series win that included a crushing 13-4 victory on Dust2 in the decider. FOKUS had recently brought in Paavo "podi" Heiskanen and Jacob "jocab" Nerheden, and this statement win marks the first major scalp for the revamped squad.
Aurora’s early exit from BLAST Bounty is a worrying sign for a team that has yet to gel under its current configuration. The gap between potential and results is growing.
xfl0ud makes instant impact for FUT
FUT kicked off life with their new rifler Yasin "xfl0ud" Koç in style, defeating SINNERS 2-1. After dropping Dust2 13-6, FUT swept Ancient and Mirage to close the series. xfl0ud was the star of the show, posting an outrageous 2.24 rating on Ancient and then top-fragging on Mirage.
After the match, coach András "coolio" Fercsák explained the decision to part ways with Laurențiu "lauNX" Țârlea was "50-50" and not solely player-driven. "We were missing a guy who was speaking in the middle of the map," coolio said. "xfl0ud is able to communicate more." That kind of mid-round leadership could be exactly what FUT needed to level up.
paiN dispatch Gentle Mates
In the final match of the day, paiN took down Gentle Mates 2-0. The Brazilian side won Inferno 13-11 and then cruised 13-6 on Nuke. Gentle Mates were playing with Joey "CRUC1AL" Steusel as a stand-in, and he made an early splash with a clean pistol ace using Dualies, but his team couldn't build on the momentum. paiN locked down the series without major drama.
What’s next for BLAST Bounty Season 2
Four matches remain in the first stage of the online portion. Here’s the schedule for July 24:
- 3DMAX vs. Magic at 11:00
- HEROIC vs. The MongolZ at 13:30
- Liquid vs. Vitality at 16:00
- DENDELE vs. FURIA at 18:30
The biggest headline match is Liquid versus Vitality, two teams with star power and playoff ambitions. HEROIC versus The MongolZ also carries weight — The MongolZ have been quietly building a strong case as a contender, and a win here would solidify that reputation.
For Spirit, the narrow escape is a reminder that no lead is safe, especially in the unpredictable environment of online Counter-Strike. OG, meanwhile, will leave the server knowing they were one or two rounds away from toppling giants. That’s the kind of near-miss that can either break a team or galvanize it.
