The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake might finally be ready to show its face again. According to reliable insider 100% Star Wars, a re-reveal is planned for later this year.

This comes after the project changed studios in 2021, moving from Aspyr to Saber Interactive, and has been largely silent since.

Why This Matters

The original KOTOR is one of the most beloved RPGs ever made. A remake has been in development hell for years, and fans have been waiting for any sign of life.

If true, this would be the first major update since the 2021 cinematic trailer.

How Did We Get Here

Saber Interactive took over development from scratch in 2022. Since then, the studio has been quietly building a team and iterating.

100% Star Wars claims development has been "going extremely smoothly" and that Saber has been "hiring some extremely high-end talent from across the industry."

"Development on the game has not only been ramping up, but it's been going extremely smoothly over the past three years since Saber started from scratch."

The insider also revealed that the best-case release window was originally mid-to-late 2027, timed for Star Wars' 50th anniversary. But with a potential slip into 2028, the remake would instead align with the original game's 25th birthday.

What This Means for Gamers

The original KOTOR, released in 2003 by BioWare, set the standard for Star Wars storytelling. Its sequel, developed by Obsidian Entertainment, has its own cult following.

BioWare later pivoted to the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, leaving single-player fans hungry for a return to form. Interestingly, original KOTOR director Casey Hudson is now working on a spiritual successor called Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic.

We might end up with two competing visions of the Old Republic arriving around the same time.

What's Next

Saber Interactive has not officially commented. But if the insider's track record holds, we could see a proper reveal at a major gaming event later this year.

For now, the Force remains cloudy on this one.
