The first phase of the Tales 30th anniversary collaboration cafe is coming to Japan from July 28 to August 23, 2026, with four food items, character-themed placemats, random drink coasters, and merchandise tied to Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny, Tales of Eternia, and Tales of Xillia.
The headline item is Mapo Curry (30th Anniversary Edition), priced at 1,300 yen, but the full package is more of a nostalgia sampler than a simple limited-time restaurant menu.
What is on the menu?
The Journey Woven by RPGs committee, backed by ufotable and Production I.G., announced the menu and goods for the first round of the cafe.
That committee is the same anniversary engine behind the 30th anniversary campaign, so the food and goods are meant to feel connected to the broader Tales milestone rather than a one-off pop-up.
The food menu is built around characters and in-game references: Farah’s Yummy Omurice is 1,600 yen, Marian’s Homemade-Style Pudding is 1,200 yen, and the Soda Rice-Style Ice Cream Plate is 1,200 yen.
Mapo Curry (30th Anniversary Edition) sits in the middle at 1,300 yen, which makes it the obvious social-media dish without being the most expensive item.
The placemat follows the represented title, so ordering the Xillia ice cream plate gets you a Tales of Xillia mat.
Those mats are also sold separately in the cafe shop, which is useful if you want the full set without eating four anniversary meals.
The merchandise leans into the older Tales eras
Merchandise includes acrylic panels, tote bags, and pins, with goods based on the four represented games.
The key visuals focus on the main hero and heroine duos, but the pin goods also include other party members, which matters because Tales players often have favorite side characters with equally specific fan followings.
That detail gives the merchandise a little more range than a standard anniversary tote-bag lineup.
It also points to the kind of fan behavior this format is built for: grab the main character item, hunt for the party-member pin, then try to complete the mats before the run ends.
Why this anniversary cafe matters now
If you were hoping for a surprise new mainline game, this announcement is not that.
It is, however, a reminder that Tales is still being actively managed as a 30-year franchise with a fanbase willing to collect the details.
The cafe lands while 2021’s Tales of Arise remains the latest mainline entry, which makes the event feel like a bridge between generations.
Tales has always balanced legacy titles with newer releases, but anniversary cafes let that history become something you can eat, buy, and photograph without waiting for a sequel announcement.
For the industry, this is the familiar Japanese game-and-anime collaboration model in action: limited dates, themed food, exclusive goods, and enough character references to make the visit feel personal.
The upside is that long-running franchises can stay visible between major releases; the downside is that the experience is often easiest for people already close to the fandom and close to Japan.
What fans should know before planning a trip
The cafe will run at ufotable and Machi Asobi cafes around Japan, so location and availability will matter.
Those are not one-day pop-ups, but the July 28 to August 23 window still creates a limited-run pressure that can make popular items sell out or drive up secondhand prices.
The drink lineup includes Cless, Mint, Stan, Rutee, Rid, Farah, Jude, and Milla, with only Rid’s and Mint’s drinks listed as hot options.
Ordering a drink also nets a random coaster from the related game, which is a small but very Tales-style incentive for collectors.
The committee has not shared pictures of the drinks yet, so the coaster and placemat system is currently the clearest way to understand how the event connects food to each game.
That makes the cafe feel less like a generic mascot meal and more like a scavenger hunt for players who know which character belongs to which era.
What to watch after August 23
The biggest question after this phase closes is whether there will be another Tales anniversary cafe round with new food, goods, or characters.
A second phase would be the most natural follow-up, especially if the first run performs well and the merch demand stays strong.
For players waiting for the next big Tales announcement, the cafe should be treated as a signal of continued brand momentum rather than a replacement for a new game.
Until then, Tales of Arise remains the current mainline anchor, and this 30th anniversary event gives the wider catalog one more reason to stay in the conversation.
