The Dust Storm event has arrived in The Division 2, bringing a new weather mechanic and free access to the Warlords of New York expansion until August 11. If you’ve been sitting on the fence about returning to the post-apocalyptic streets, this is a good excuse to jump back in.

The event introduces two types of dust storms — Calm and Raging — that cycle every 18 and 8 minutes respectively. These storms obscure visibility and bring new enemy groups called Dust Devils, who will ambush you.

Why This Matters

For players who haven’t yet played Warlords of New York, this event unlocks the entire expansion for free during its run. That’s a significant chunk of content at no extra cost, and it’s tied directly to the event’s progression.

The storms aren’t just visual flair. They change how you play — the Raging version makes long-range combat nearly impossible, forcing close-quarters engagements. The Dust Devil squads spawn every six minutes, and killing 50 common enemies summons a boss.

Also keep an eye out for the Scoured Hunter, an elite enemy that can pop up randomly after a raging dust storm has ended.

Defeating the Scoured Hunter rewards additional Storm Keys, which are the event’s currency. You’ll need those keys to unlock apparel and gear caches at the event vendor.

How to Farm Keys

Storm Keys drop from Dust Devil squads, bosses, and the Scoured Hunter. Higher difficulties reduce the number of kills needed per key — on Heroic, you only need 10 kills instead of 14. The first 150 kills each day have a halved requirement, so daily grinding pays off.

There are also 20 hidden caches scattered across New York that respawn. Destroy them for extra keys, but you’ll have to find them in the dust storms. Use audio cues to track them down.

Rewards Breakdown

The event offers two cache types: Apparel and Gear. Apparel includes outfits like Wired, Vagabond, Parched, and Breathless, plus variant headgear. Gear caches have a small chance at the Prototype Rabid D50 event weapon and prototype gear sets, alongside a long list of named and exotic items.

This is classic live-service event design — grind, get keys, roll the dice on loot. But the free expansion access and weather-driven gameplay make it more than a simple loot treadmill. The Dust Storm event runs until August 11, so you’ve got a couple of weeks to brave the storms.
