Where to find the Pillar of Autumn Skulls in Halo: Campaign Evolved
The Pillar of Autumn is the first mission in Halo: Campaign Evolved, and it is also the place to grab three Skulls: Speed Limit, Magnified, and Perspective. There is also one approachable collectible terminal, called Approach, tucked into the mission’s early ship interiors.
If you want the fastest path, the good news is that all four collectibles are in the Close section of the mission. None of them require backtracking to the hangar or waiting until later chapters. You can grab them in order as you move through the opening sequence.
Speed Limit Skull: jump onto the containers near the cryo pod
Location: Close, right after the opening sequence when you first gain control of Master Chief outside the cryo pod.
As soon as you are in control, turn around instead of moving forward. Look for two containers against the back-left wall, with a UNSC logo painted above them. Jump onto the containers, then jump up onto the walkway above.
The Speed Limit Skull sits at the end of that short walkway. Once collected, it disables sprint in the campaign, making Master Chief feel more deliberate during combat. It is a classic Skull-style punishment, but it is easy to miss because the route is basically a one-time jump test in the opening room.
Magnified Skull: collect it in the armory before the weapon fight
Location: Close, inside the armory during the Covenant attack sequence.
After the opening chaos, the Covenant attack forces you to retreat because you do not have a weapon yet. Follow the Marines through the halls until you reach the room marked B02L. A Marine will guide you toward Captain Keyes, and the first room you pass through is the armory.
The Magnified Skull is located in the middle of the third rack of guns. Grab it before you leave, because the reward is worth remembering: it gives Assault Rifles 60-round magazines. That is a meaningful upgrade for a mission that starts with you disarmed and throws you into close-range shipboard combat.
Perspective Skull: drop down behind Captain Keyes after the cutscene
Location: Close, in the room with Captain Keyes and the pilots.
After the cutscene with Captain Keyes, leave the room very briefly so Master Chief can ready his Magnum. Once you have the pistol equipped, head back into the room with Keyes and move behind him toward where the pilots are standing.
Drop down the nearby ladder, then look to the left side of the ladder. The Perspective Skull is there. This is the most important one in the mission, because it unlocks third-person mode for the campaign.
Third-person mode changes how you read space, especially during tight corridors and sudden ambushes. You are not just seeing Master Chief’s weapon; you are seeing his body, his position in the room, and how enemies line up around him. It is a small quality-of-life unlock, but it makes the campaign feel noticeably different.
Approach Terminal: return above the cryo pod chambers after the vent
Location: Close, after the mission marker leads you through a vent.
Continue through the mission and follow the objective markers. Eventually, you will enter a vent and emerge in the same room above the cryo pod chambers where the soldier was killed at the start of the game.
From there, head through the first door in front of you, then immediately take a left through another room. The Approach Terminal is in that space. Like the Skulls, it is deliberately placed along the main path, so it is not hidden behind optional exploration.
Quick Pillar of Autumn collectible checklist
- Speed Limit Skull: Jump onto the containers below the UNSC logo, then up to the walkway above the cryo pod area.
- Magnified Skull: Grab it in the armory, on the middle of the third rack of guns.
- Perspective Skull: After the Keyes cutscene, arm your Magnum, return to the room, drop down behind the pilots, and check left of the ladder.
- Approach Terminal: After following the mission markers through the vent, return above the cryo pod chambers, go through the front door, then turn left.
The Pillar of Autumn collectibles are not the kind of setup that rewards wandering for its own sake. They reward attention to the mission’s layout, especially the early vertical routes and the rooms you pass through while being guided by Marines, Keyes, and the mission markers. If you are collecting in your first run, this is a clean way to learn the ship’s layout while still keeping momentum.
Getting these four items early also sets up the rest of the campaign with fewer interruptions. You do not need to hunt the first chapter again just to unlock third-person mode or finish the Skull checklist. Once you know the sequence, the mission becomes less about finding hidden corners and more about reading the level’s geography as it unfolds.
