The Hidden Mountain expansion for Where Winds Meet is live now, and it’s a big one. Developer Everstone Studio dropped a fresh trailer alongside a full breakdown of what’s coming to the free-to-play open-world RPG. If you’ve been grinding toward level 32, this is your cue to dive back in.
Reaching the Unseen Approach
The new zone is called the Unseen Approach, and it’s not just another pretty area. To access it, you need to be at least level 32 and have completed the quest Hidden Mountain Main Chapter 2: Haven Astray. The zone is shrouded in mystery, with rumors that it’s possessed by a spirit that doesn’t want to be found. Once you’re in, you’ll find suspended walkways stretching across dizzying heights, with the hum of machinery faintly audible in the distance.
Everstone describes the zone as a place where “ingenious devices of iron and wood coexist with maple groves and seas of flowers.” It’s a clever marriage of industrial and natural aesthetics that feels distinct from the base game’s areas. Exploring rewards you with earrings and nameplates, so it’s worth poking around every corner.
New Story Quests and Lore
If you’ve finished Kaifeng Main Chapter 1: New Arrival in Kaifeng – The Welcoming Crowd, you can jump into the Hidden Mountain story quest. It revolves around the mysteries of the mountain itself and acts as a prelude to the upcoming Hidden Mountain Main Chapter: Bringer of Embers. For lore enthusiasts, the Jianghu Legacy quest line begins with Volume 1: Mountain Unveiled, provided you have the Wulin Journal for Hidden Mountain. The second volume arrives on August 6th.
This expansion feels less like a filler update and more like a natural next chapter in the ongoing narrative. The team at Everstone is clearly investing in world-building, and it shows.
World Bosses: Ci & Cuo and the Ironheart Centipede
Two new World Bosses await. The first, Ci & Cuo, are a pair of puppets that live beneath a lake. They’re described as elusive, so just starting the encounter might be the trickiest part. Defeating them for the first time rewards you with the Radiant Charm accessory, Inner Way Note: Custom Chest, Medicinal Tales, and Echo Jade. There are also additional challenges tied to the boss that offer extra loot.
The second boss, the Ironheart Centipede, is a Frankenstein-like creation of self-moving cauldrons, each emitting strange sounds thanks to a “mechanism bug.” Originally built to fight venomous creatures in the mountains, it’s been forgotten and now roams the area. Despite its benevolent origins, it won’t go down easily. Both bosses add welcome variety to the endgame loop, and their unique AI patterns keep fights from feeling repetitive.
Gauntlets: A New Weapon Type
Perhaps the most exciting addition is the Gauntlets. This close-quarters weapon is built around the concepts of “Edge of Chivalry” and “Pinnacle of Righteousness” from Mohist teachings in the game’s world. You can unlock the gauntlets by joining the new Mohist Hill sect or visiting the Universal Love Shop. The gauntlets come with their own martial arts skills that you earn through various activities.
For a game that already offers a wide range of combat styles, the gauntlets add a satisfying punch to melee builds. They’re especially fun in the new zone’s vertical spaces, where you can close distances quickly.
What’s Next for Hidden Mountain
Everstone has confirmed that more updates are on the way as part of this expansion. Expect additional zones, campaigns, world bosses, and story chapters. The roadmap suggests a steady stream of content through the rest of the year. For a free-to-play title, Where Winds Meet is doing a lot right — and this expansion proves the team isn’t slowing down.
If you’ve been on the fence about returning, now’s a good time. The new zone alone offers hours of exploration, and the boss fights give endgame players something to chew on. Just make sure you’re at level 32 and ready for the climb.
