The creators of the title sequence for 007 First Light detail how they put together the intro and how Lana Del Rey’s inclusion was a closely guarded secret. The title sequence of a James Bond adventure is pivotal to its overall vibe. As the true introduction to a film or game, the song and sequence work hand in hand to set the tone and drop Easter eggs for what to expect, especially for the more eagle-eyed fans. 007 First Light, the most recent James Bond release and the first console video game for the franchise in over a decade, follows the trend set by the movies very well, punctuated by a track from Lana Del Rey made exclusively for the game. More 007 First Light News: Lenny Kravitz Talks Inspiration For 007: First Light Character 007 First Light Devs Didn’t Know Lana Del Rey Was Singing the Theme Recently, Calvin Dyson, who runs a 007-centric YouTube channel, had the opportunity to speak with some of the individuals responsible for crafting the game’s title sequence, namely Creative Director Chris Sharpe and Chief Creative Officer Andrew Cockstone from Territory Studio. During the discussion, Sharpe revealed that Lana’s inclusion was kept under wraps and that, initially, the team had to work with placeholder songs. “It came in stages. I think we knew from the off, right off the bat, that we were working with a score that was being sort of written and composed by David Arnold. So we knew what the level of ambition was from their side and how close they wanted to keep this to a cinematic delivery,” said Sharpe. “We had a pretty rough score, I think, that came across to start with, with some really sort of abstract vocals that were sort of placement… Bond sequences quite often are kind of married with incredible tracks. I will be absolutely candid with this one; it was brilliant. But we didn’t know anything about Lana Del Rey for quite some time there.” The game, which was released in May, recently received its first major update. Learn more about that here.
